Is indoor-grown food actually natural?

Yes. Our greens are real plants grown from real seeds, and they grow through photosynthesis just as they would in a field. The difference is the environment they're grown in.

See how we grow our greens, who’s behind them and why we started, all in under 60 seconds.

Are the seeds any different?

No. Our greens start as standard seed varieties, the same kinds grown on conventional farms. Our spinach seeds, for example, come from the Netherlands.

And growing indoors doesn't make a plant genetically modified. Genetic modification involves changing a plant's DNA using gene technology, not changing where it grows. Our seeds are non-GMO.

Do plants need sunlight to grow?

They need light, but it doesn't have to come from the sun.

Plants use light to produce energy through photosynthesis, and they only use part of the light the sun produces. Indoors, we control the colour, brightness and number of hours of light each crop receives.

The process inside the leaf is the same as it would be outdoors.

"Plants still determine success. Technology simply helps create ideal conditions."

Daniel Tzvetkoff, CEO & Founder

How do plants grow without soil?

Our plants get the same minerals they would absorb from soil, including nitrogen, potassium and calcium, but through water instead.

Each seed starts in a compostable growing medium, and our automated systems manage water quality and nutrient levels 24 hours a day.

This method of growing is called hydroponics.

What about the weather?

Our grow rooms are sealed and maintained between 17 and 24°C all year round.

That means no frosts, heatwaves or storms affecting the crops, and no pests to spray for. Our plants can grow without having to recover from a spell of bad weather.

Does growing indoors make plants grow faster?

Yes. With consistent growing conditions, our greens are ready to harvest in 16 to 31 days, depending on the crop, compared with 45 to 80 days in traditional farming.

Every day, the plants receive the light, water, nutrients and temperature they need to grow.

So, what's actually different?

The growing environment, not the plant.

Our greens still start from seeds, use photosynthesis and absorb the same minerals they would outdoors.

We've just removed some of the variables that make traditional farming unpredictable, like weather, pests and changing seasons.

FAQs

Yes. Our greens grow with their roots in nutrient-rich water instead of soil. This is called hydroponics, and it allows us to control exactly what each crop receives.

Our greens aren't certified organic, as organic certification in Australia requires plants to be grown in soil. However, we grow without pesticides, and independent testing by a NATA-accredited laboratory found no detectable residues from more than 200 pesticides, herbicides and fungicides.

No washing needed. Our greens are grown, harvested and packed in a controlled indoor environment, so they're ready to eat straight from the pack.

No. We use conventional, non-GMO seeds, just like those used in traditional farming. Growing plants indoors doesn't change their DNA.

Our greens are grown on the Gold Coast, Queensland. Scan the QR code on your pack to see which farm your greens came from and when they were harvested. Our Melbourne Airport farm is expected to begin harvesting in 2027.

Yes. By controlling light, temperature, water and nutrients, we can grow fresh greens year-round, regardless of the weather outside.
