One Bag, Every Colour: What's Really in Mixed Leaf

What is mixed leaf?

Mixed leaf is a blend of young, tender salad leaves — think baby cos, green and red coral, and chard — picked and bundled together into one ready-to-go salad base. Mild, delicate, and a genuine shortcut to a good-looking plate.

What's actually in the bag?

A good mixed leaf blend is about contrast: different colours, different textures, different shades of green and red, all with a soft, mild flavour that plays well with almost any dressing. It's less about one standout leaf and more about the mix working together.

Why ours is grown differently

Because every leaf in our blend is grown in the same system, under the same conditions, at the same time, there's no guesswork about what's gone into the bag or where it's come from — unlike a mix pulled together from several different field growers.

Growing everything ourselves also means no pesticides or herbicides on any component leaf, and a consistent ratio of each variety from one bag to the next. The exact leaf varieties can shift from time to time — we're always testing options to boost the nutrient content and strength of the blend — but the balance of colour, texture and flavour stays the same.

What are the health benefits of mixed leaf?

Like the rest of our range, mixed leaf is a good source of Vitamin A and Vitamin K1, and — because it's a blend — you're getting a bit of variety in leaf type with every handful, not just one lettuce doing all the work.

How do you keep mixed leaf fresh?

Store it unwashed, in a bag or container with a little air space, in the crisper drawer. Kept that way, it holds up for up to 18 days — more than twice as long as a regular bunch from the shops.

A blend is only as fresh as its most delicate leaf, which is exactly why ours goes into the bag clean and dry straight after harvest, with no washing step. Washed leaves hold onto extra moisture, and that's what speeds up wilting in any salad mix.

Starts fresh, stays fresher

Here's the head start most greens never get: ours arrive clean and dry. Grown indoors, pesticide-free, and never washed — so there's no leftover moisture quietly turning the leaves before you've even opened the pack. Store them well and they'll reward you.

Because we grow every component ourselves under the same conditions, the ratio stays consistent bag to bag. The exact varieties can change from time to time, though — we're always testing new options to boost the nutrient content and strength of our leaves, so the blend keeps improving.

It's built for salads first, but it works well as a base for wraps, piled into a sandwich, or scattered over a warm dish as a fresh, colourful finish.

No. Ours is ready to eat straight from the bag — skip the rinse.

No. We grow indoors with no soil, so there are no weeds or pests to manage — which means no pesticides or herbicides, ever.

Not certified, and here's why: organic certification in Australia requires soil, and ours is grown hydroponically. That said, we don't use any pesticides or herbicides at all — so while we can't carry the certification, the growing process is just as clean.

A mixed leaf bag is the fastest route to a good-looking salad — minimal effort, maximum colour.
