Mesclun: The French Classic Behind Your Fanciest Salads

Mesclun is a mix of young, tender salad leaves — traditionally rocket, mustard greens, lettuces and herbs, picked while still small for the mildest flavour and best texture. Our Australian-style version blends rocket, oakleaf, cos / romaine, mizuna and tatsoi.
Expect a mix of milder lettuces alongside something with a bit of peppery bite, usually rocket or mustard, for contrast. Ours balances the mild pepperiness of mizuna and tatsoi against softer oakleaf and cos / romaine, so no single leaf takes over.
Fair question if you've looked at both bags side by side. Mixed Leaf leans on heartier, larger-format leaves — baby cos / romaine, coral lettuce, chard. Mesclun is the more delicate, French-style cousin: smaller leaves with more peppery character, closer to a classic French salad mix. Same idea, a ready-made salad base, different texture and flavour.

Every leaf in our mesclun blend is grown hydroponically, indoors, which means no pesticides or herbicides on any component. Growing everything ourselves also means we control the harvest timing for each leaf individually, so every component comes in at its tender, young peak — rather than relying on several different field growers to get the timing right.
Consistent growing conditions also mean a consistent flavour balance: the peppery lift from the mizuna and tatsoi sits at the same strength every time, rather than shifting with whatever the weather did to a field crop that week.

Like the rest of our range, mesclun is a good source of Vitamin A and Vitamin K1 — and because it's a blend, you're getting a mix of different leaf types in every handful, not just one lettuce doing the work.
Keep it in the fridge, ideally in its original bag with a little air space, and use it within about five days. Mesclun is a blend of young, tender leaves, so it wilts faster than a sturdier green like cos or romaine.
Because we harvest every component at the same time and pack it straight away, there's none of the handling and transport delay a mix pulled together from several different growers usually goes through — which means less bruising and less wilting before it reaches your fridge.
Here's the head start most greens never get: ours arrive clean and dry. Grown indoors, pesticide-free, and never washed — so there's no leftover moisture quietly turning the leaves before you've even opened the pack. Store them well and they'll reward you.

Our mesclun mix may contain rocket, oakleaf, cos / romaine, mizuna and tatsoi, basically any leaves with a mix of mild and peppery flavour and picked young for the best texture.
About five days, kept sealed with a little air space. It's a blend of delicate leaves, so use it a little sooner than a sturdier green.
Close enough for most purposes — both are blends of young, tender salad leaves. The exact leaves included can vary by region and grower.
No. We grow indoors with no soil, so there are no weeds or pests to manage — which means no pesticides or herbicides, ever.
Not certified, and here's why: organic certification in Australia requires soil, and ours is grown hydroponically. That said, we don't use any pesticides or herbicides at all — so while we can't carry the certification, the growing process is just as clean.
Mesclun's built to be the star, not just the base — dress it lightly and let the mix of flavours do the work.
